Dreams- a mystical journey

Every night you set out for a beautiful journey of dreams in your sleep. It is thrilling for you as you have different experiences in this journey. Dreams make you feel good, feel scared and at times make you feel sad too. Nevertheless, whatever the feelings be, dreams are an integral part of your life and you look forward to go on a roller-coaster ride with them. Though dreams have been present in the life of every human being since their birth, the cause of dreams is still not clear to anyone. Till a few years back, most people took those dreams into consideration which they remembered after waking up. But modern technology can now even detect what is going on in the mind and brain of a person which arises in the form of dreams during sleep.

Sleep- its causes and stages

It is believed that for a healthy mind and body, you need a sleep of 6-8 hours per day. However, scientists who spent time in space discovered that their period of sleep has reduced drastically and this pattern of sleep has not affected their health in a bad way. In fact, people tend to sleep for fewer hours as they grow old. Research shows that there is a central point in the brain of a human being which controls the sleeping pattern. Hence, a     restricted social and physical involvement reduces sleep in a person’s life.

Sleep can be categorized in different stages based on the level of its depth. Therefore, roughly there are 6 stages of sleep which can be named as A, B, C, D, E and F respectively. ‘A’ is the initial stage of sleep and ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ and ‘F’ are the next levels of sleep. ‘F’ is the stage when a person is in the deepest state of sleep.

Movement of the pupil also keeps changing according to the stages of the sleep. In the first stages, the pupil keeps moving rapidly whereas in the later stages, it moves very less. In the sixth stage of sleep, the pupil moves the most and this is the stage when a person dreams of certain images. If a person is disturbed during this stage of sleep then he tends to get irritable.

We spend almost 1/3 rd of our life in sleeping that is in a life of 100 years, 25-35 years of life is spent in sleeping. A baby less than 1 year of age spends most of his time sleeping. In fact, adequate sleep is extremely important for the proper development and growth of the baby. A new born baby often smiles in his sleep. According to Hindu beliefs, a baby smiles when he sees the image of God, any divine spirit or any incident related to his last birth.

All creatures of this earth sleep and experience dreams also. Plants too, have a time when they take rest. Each and every living thing sleeps though the pattern and duration of sleep may differ from each other. There is a biological clock inside the body which makes one aware that it is time to sleep.

Dreams happen during sleep and you connect with many of your unknown emotions, feelings through them. At times, past incidents too come in your dreams and force you to contemplate on them. Sleep is a source to travel into a different world of dreams where you can seek answers to several questions of your life. It relieves you from the mundane tensions and worries of the day. You can also keep diseases at bay and lead a fit lifestyle if you sleep well. It is only in sleep that you discover a wonderful world of dreams; without a proper sleep dreams can never find their way in your life.
